Fondue for You

Tonight we got to spend some time catching up with some friends. John Mark and Lauren invited us over for a night of games and fondue. Fun was to be had by all. We started out with some delicious chocolate fondue, which all of us overindulged in (just a little...) and then moved on to some A to Z, a wonderful game that Daryll and I are attempting to spread to everyone we know. Unfortunately the boys beat the girls 2-1 in 3 rounds. I feel that I must give them credit for the win because it is such a rare occurrence. After A to Z, John Mark busted out the Wii and we played a lot of crazy games that will leave us with sore arms tomorrow. All in all a great night! And we're very thankful to still have some friends in San Diego to share random game nights with.

Softball Tuesdays

Tonight at our softball game Daryll was pitching and got nailed by a ball hit back up the middle. The worst part is that it hit him square on the shin bone, so he probably won't even have a good bruise from it. I took a picture of it, but it looks pretty lame today, so I'm going to spare him the picture post. Maybe if it bruises up tomorrow I'll share it with the world. Instead, tonight here's a video of Daryll and Lulu.

Bye, Bye Miss American Pie

Today I was beginning to doubt whether or not I'd actually be able to keep up with my picture a day. I know that we're only 5 days into 2009, but today was the first day back to normal, everyday life and (let's face it) there's not always something exciting or picture-worthy going on. However, it seems that the puppies read my mind and gave me a blog-worthy story and picture for the day. When I left the house for lunch the puppies were sound asleep, so I thought I'd leave them out of the kitchen. I put away everything that I thought they could get into and then walked out. When I returned the house was in the order that I left it in except for one small change. Our BRAND NEW Guitar Hero game disc was in the middle of the floor. With teeth marks in it. Yes, somehow, someway the puppies had ejected the game disc from the Wii console and chewed it up just enough so that it no longer works. I guess they were just jealous of the time that we were spending on Guitar Hero that we should have been spending on them. (Silly humans...) Anyways, it is quite unfortunate, but all you can really do is laugh at it. Who would have ever expected our dogs to be that smart? Thus today, January 5th, 2005, is the day the music died. (At
least until the new copy we ordered off of amazon
arrives :-)

Day of Rest

Today was a restful day for the most part. We watched the Ravens dominate over the Dolphins this morning while Daryll BBQ'd up some tri-tip. Then Dad, Amy, and Conor left for home and Daryll left to get a haircut. Tonight, we're just relaxing, gearing up for a new episode of Housewives. Today is a little sad though because it seems like the official end of the holiday season. The decorations have come down and tomorrow starts the first "normal" week in quite a while. However, a new year always brings new beginnings and something to look forward to...

Go Chargers!

Excitement and anticipation were in the air as we arrived at Qualcomm Stadium to watch the Chargers take on the Colts. None of us had ever been to a playoff game before and the game didn't disappoint. We spent the afternoon tailgating and visiting with friends. Conor had his first authentic American tailgating experience which I think he enjoyed more than the game itself. We got into the stadium just before the game started and from there time sped up. The game was back and forth and the crowd kept jumping up with cheers and then sitting down with disappointment. Admittedly I was nervous when the game went into overtime. We all held our breath through the coin toss....and it was tails! The Chargers would receive! The crowd went wild! I took the opportunity to give Conor a little lesson in American football. As everyone was cheering about the coin toss, I leaned over to Conor and told him that we won the game! He said, "what we won the game?" and Amy and I started busting up laughing. I'm not sure he'll ever let down that moment of gullibility. Finally, however, the Chargers did march down the field to score the game winning touchdown! Overall, our first playoff experience was more than we could have asked for. Let's just hope the Chargers can keep the streak going next week in Tennessee.

Guitar Hero World Tour

On Christmas Eve, Dad and Melanie surprised Daryll and I with a large box. Inside was a gift that Daryll had been dying for and I had been dreading: Rock Band. Of course Daryll was delighted about the gift but he quickly noticed a problem...it was Rock Band for Playstation 2, but we only had the Wii. We decided that we would try to exchange it, but after calling every Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, and Walmart within a 50 mile radius we weren't sure it would be as easy as we expected. Daryll spent the last week eager with anticipation for the new arrivals, all the while with a new idea churning in his mind. Guitar Hero World Tour was just like Rock Band...guitar, vocals, drums (and cymbals too!). And of course when Daryll saw that G.H. was in stores and available TODAY, the decision was already made. Thus, the peaceful household we once had has subsided to the loud and obtrusive Guitar Hero. And I hate to admit it, but I actually like it. A lot. I'm not sure that the neighbors would say the same though..... :-)

Happy 2009!

Happy New Year! We kicked off the new year with a game night with a bunch of our friends and my Dad. Of course the women dominated and won the majority of the games, as per usual but the guys kept us laughing with their moves in Guesstures. Daryll and Greg amused us with the newest installment of their yearly edition of New Year's Videos. (Perhaps a clip from this video shall make it into a future post.) Ella made it til midnight and beyond with energy to spare, but Lulu crashed around 10 and hardly flinched when the ball dropped. I set the self timer on my camera to catch the start of 2008, but unfortunately Daryll and my heads were out of the frame so I don't think I'll be posting that one anytime soon. Instead here's a picture that Jen took of Daryll and I at the start of our first full year married.
